Day 1: Los Angeles Youth Empowerment!

After a long drive from Eugene, Oregon Team Los Angeles finally made it to California. On Sunday our group took a cultural tour around Los Angeles, and familiarized ourselves with the school district, and Los Angeles Area. We also had some time to eat walk around Venice Beach and Hollywood.

Today, we volunteered at two different sites. All group members woke up very early so that we could attend our first service project with Woodrow Wilson High school. We talked to AVID Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students. During the forum, students asked us questions about application to the UO, Scholarship, Academic Requirements, Student Programs, Majors/minors and general questions about "what it is to be a college student".

Our second volunteer location was at Salvation Army Redshield of Los Angeles. At this site participants had the opportunity to play sports with the students (soccer and basketball) and create arts and crafts (lanyard).

We had an amazing day! Looking forward to another great day tomorrow :)
